General Council
Scarboro Missions' General Council is comprised of a Superior General and two Councillors:
Fr. Jack Lynch
Superior General
Fr. Jack spent his youth in Port Credit, just west of Toronto. He was ordained for Scarboro Missions in 1968. After ordination, Fr. Jack spent several years working in our Mission Information Department. In 1975, he was assigned to Peru, where he opened our mission on the outskirts of Lima. After seven years in Peru, Fr. Jack returned to Canada as director of our Mission Information Department. From 1988 to 1997, he was director of the Inter-American Co-operative Institute in Panama. Fr. Harvey Steele, S.F.M. had founded this training centre for human development in 1964. Fr. Jack was elected Superior General of Scarboro Missions in 1997 and was re-elected for a second five-year term in August 2002.
Fr. Mike Traher
Vicar General
Fr. Michael Traher was born and raised in London, Ontario. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1970. After four years in our Promotions Department, Fr. Mike was assigned to the Philippines, where he worked for 10 years. In 1984, he became Director of our Formation/Education Department and in 1987 was elected a member of our General Council. Fr. Mike was Vicar General from 1990 until 1997, at which time he returned to his post as Director of the Formation/Education Department. He was elected Vicar general once more in August 2002.
Fr. John Carten
Councillor
Fr. John Carten grew up in the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was ordained in 1975 after completing a two-year internship program in Japan . After ordination, Fr. John returned to Japan, where he has spent almost 25 years. From 1984 to 1988, he served as Director of the Formation/Education Department. He was elected General Councillor at the 11th General Chapter in August 2002.
