Scarboro Missions JPIC Office closes after 37 years
At the end of December 2017 the JPIC Office was closed as part of Scarboro Missions’ process of transition. You are invited to read about the history of the JPO / JPIC Office in the final issue of Scarboro Missions magazine which will be published in May 2018 and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scarboro Missions.
The Justice & Peace Office (JPO) was established in 1980 although its name expanded in 2014 to the Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office or JPIC Office. JPIC Office work on behalf of justice, peace and care for creation was an integral dimension of Scarboro Missions’ commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ, who said “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). Work on social and ecological justice was done collaboratively through inter-church connections such as KAIROS, as well as Catholic, interfaith and other networks.
In February 2018 Karen Van Loon will begin work with Faith & the Common Good (FCG) coordinating their new program Cultivating Care for Our Common Home –for Catholic parishes or groups in Toronto who would like to explore and respond more deeply to Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home. She may be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Starting in 2018 Jack Lynch email@example.com will be the contact person at Scarboro Missions for any jpic related inquiries.
